Understand the dispatch desk before applying

• Look for the size and type of operation, shift coverage, and who you will communicate with. Ask whether the role includes after-hours calls, route planning, customer service, or supervising other dispatchers.
• Prepare examples of prioritising competing requests, updating an ETA, and recording a change accurately. Name the scheduling or transport systems you have actually used.
• For trucking roles, ask what training is provided on the employer’s procedures and applicable operating requirements. Do not assume a US dispatcher guide describes Canadian requirements.
